M.Phil. Statistics
Introduction
Statistics covers a wide range of studies which include: Statistics as an information science: collection and analysis of information about population, housing, finance, industries and so on. Theoretical statistics a study of statistical inference; The applications of the methods of theoretical statistics are in social, physical and biological science. The study of probability theory is a mathematical subject in its own right .
This is an essential basis for theoretical statistics and application of probability theory. The practical applications of probability
theory are in technology and management. The problems of teaching students doing research for M.Phil and Ph.D in Statistics are of quite different kind. Students are prepared in distribution theory, inference, experimental designs, multivariate analysis, linear models, etc. they should at least be put into the position of being able to move easily into these subjects.
Duration of the program is 1.5 years.
